The Dallas Park and Recreation Department offers programs specifically designed to meet the needs and abilities of individuals with disabilities. We offer a continuum of services for individuals of all ages that provide opportunities to improve quality of life, foster independence, make friends, and boost self-esteem.
Program Benefits
Our full time staff are Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS), so all programs are designed to improve participants’ functioning in the Therapeutic Recreation domains of well-being: physical health, cognitive health, psychological/emotional health, social health, and spiritual health. With an emphasis on leisure functioning and community integration, our CTRS assist participants in reaching individual goals and improving quality of life for all.
Activities
We offer a variety of activities year-round. Some of our most popular programs include:
- Adult Day Program
- Summer Day Camp
- Special Olympics
- Wheelchair Basketball
- Seasonal Dances
Contact Bachman Recreation Center for information about the programs we are currently offering and for information on how to register.
Volunteers and Internships
We are always seeking volunteers to share their talents with our participants and assist with on-going programs and special events. In addition, we offer internship and practicum placements for college students enrolled in Therapeutic Recreation programs from colleges and universities across the country. Please contact Bachman Recreation Center for more information about volunteer and internship opportunities.
