Anderson Bonner Park is a 44.1 acre community park, established in 1976, located in North Dallas. Named after Anderson Bonner, a man born into slavery around 1839 who went on to become a prominent landowner and businessman in Texas. Through determination and entrepreneurial drive, he amassed more than 2,000 acres in what is now North Dallas and Richardson—an extraordinary achievement. The park itself occupies part of his original land, making it a meaningful tribute to his legacy and an important chapter in the region’s Black history.

Public Art

The park is home to a public art piece titled "Sankofa: Anderson Bonner Memorial", created by Andrew F. Scott. "Sankofa" is both the title of the sculpture and phrasing that embodies the central conceptual framework serving as the underlying tribute to the life and legacy of Anderson Bonner.
