Dallas Park and Recreation has received $20,000 to promote pollinator awareness and education as part of Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation.
The department will use the funding to install a pollinator habitat at Crawford Memorial Park and host BioBlitz events during September. BioBlitz events are free and open to everyone. At these events, participants use the iNaturalist app to take photos and record details about plants, trees, insects and wildlife abundant in Dallas parks.
"BioBlitz creates awareness of the need for everyone to protect our environment and ecosystems. They are educational as well as fun for everyone. We want communities to know how vital pollinators are in our daily lives," said John D. Jenkins, director, Dallas Park and Recreation. "Creating the Crawford Park pollinator garden will provide an outdoor classroom and a natural space where residents can learn and enjoy all year round.”
The BioBlitz campaign is part of ScottsMiracle-Gro’s Gro More Good commitment to promote pollinator education and protection to children, America’s youngest generation of gardeners.
