The Dallas Park and Recreation Department is hosting its first-ever 4th of July-themed race that will feature two unique distances of 7 kilometers and 4 kilometers. Dallas 7/4 begins at 7:40 a.m. Friday, July 4 at the Band Shell at Fair Park.

Proceeds from Dallas 7/4 will be used to scholarship youth to attend Dallas Park and Recreation programs and summer camps. In 2013 the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department provided summer camps at 55 locations for more than 5,300 youth ages 6 through 12.

“We believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the diverse recreational programs and activities our department offers year-round at recreation centers, community parks and family attraction facilities. We are excited about the Dallas 7/4 to help us raise awareness of our programs and our commitment to keeping youth fit and healthy,” said Willis Winters, Dallas Park and Recreation director.

Dallas 7/4 is designed to attract a wide array of participants from the competitive runner to casual walkers. Following the race, participants will enjoy a festive celebration with live music, refreshments, a complimentary admission ticket to access rides, games and concessions on the State Fair of Texas Midway – open on 7/4 at 12pm, through the conclusion of the fireworks. Each registered participant will also receive a commemorative t-shirt courtesy of the Dallas Parks Foundation.
