Refurbished Baseball Field Reopens in Southeast Dallas

Pleasant Oaks Baseball Field Ribbon Cutting

Dallas Park and Recreation joined the Texas Rangers, Scotts and Major League Baseball to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished Pleasant Oaks Park Baseball Field.

Pleasant Oaks is one of six youth ball field refurbishments that will take place during the 2017 MLB season as part of the Scotts® Field Refurbishment Program, a partnership between Scotts and MLB to give back to kids and communities around the country by renovating youth baseball and softball fields.

“We are deeply committed to the care and maintenance of our city parks, trails, and open spaces and this newly refurbished ball field is an example of that commitment," said Robert Abtahi, Dallas Park and Recreation Board President. "Pleasant Grove youth and those across the city will enjoy this facility for years to come.”

Since 2010, Dallas Park and Recreation has been a partner with the Texas Rangers Foundation to give youth a chance to learn and play baseball through Jr. RBI leagues. Each year, Dallas Park and Recreation helps thousands of boys and girls improve their game through sports camps and skills clinics, while encouraging sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive self-image.

“They have made our Field of Dreams come true for the future MLB All-Stars who will get their start in baseball – and in life – right here at Pleasant Oaks. They have hit a home run with this field,” said Yolanda F. Williams, who represents Pleasant Grove communities on the Dallas Park and Recreation Board. “The gift of their efforts and support to our youth is priceless,” Williams said.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation led a baseball clinic on the new field for the boys and girls who participate in RBI teams in the surrounding neighborhoods. Mascot Rangers Captain made a special appearance.

The Scotts Field Refurbishment Program is one of the key programs under MLB’s PLAY BALL initiative, which began in 2015 to encourage widespread participation in all forms of baseball and softball activities, especially among youth. Scotts is a supporter of PLAY BALL and also the title sponsor of Scotts MLB Pitch, Hit and Run – MLB’s largest national youth skills competition.
