Spring is upon us, as the flowers appear on the earth, and the voice of the turtledove is heard once again. Now is a perfect time to visit our Dallas Parks. I invite you to take some time to be in nature and enjoy our beautiful parks, trails and open spaces. Keeping our parks inviting is one of the department’s biggest priorities and we invite residents to help us in this effort by participating in our citywide “It’s My Park Day” event.
This year "It’s My Park Day" is on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. “It’s My Park Day” is a citywide community service initiative focused on enhancing Dallas parks and recreation centers. Individuals, families, homeowners’ associations, companies, churches and civic groups are invited to organize and participate in beautification and clean-up activities throughout our park system. Projects include litter and debris clean-up, weeding and mulching, gardening, and tree planting. What a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day!
In addition to beautifying our neighborhood parks, this event further connects people with their neighborhoods. Residents that care about their parks and recreation centers care about their neighborhoods and communities. It’s My Park Day is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, business owners and others that make our communities great.
It’s My Park Day is not all work! In the past we have groups complete their work and celebrate with picnics, barbeques, live music and other family friendly activities.
Online registration is open now through April 15. Only one registration is required per group by the Team Captain. Once registered, Park Maintenance staff will work with the group to ensure that their volunteer effort is successful.
I encourage everyone to register and help us in beautifying our parks and facilities. Register NOW. For additional information, please contact Park Maintenance Services at 214-670-1923.
