The Dallas Park and Recreation Department has partnered with Dallas Independent School District (DISD) to offer free evening swim training at several DISD natatoriums. The program is designed for DISD middle and high school students, who didn’t have the opportunity to take swim lessons as youngsters and are now interested in joining the swim team or perhaps becoming a lifeguard, in the future.
“We are really excited about this partnership because traditional swim lessons are not very appealing to this particular age group, however this program is specifically tailored for them,” said Robin Steinshnider, City of Dallas Aquatics Manger. “Ultimately, this program will save lives and provide the training these teens need to become aquatic leaders within their communities.”
All levels are welcome. The program’s curriculum is tailored to their age and abilities. This program will help teens take the next step in reaching their swimming goals, whether they be to improve their health, compete for their school, or save lives as a lifeguard.

In addition to the new teen swim training program, we are currently offering daytime programming at Pleasant Grove Pool in Southeast Dallas. The pool is currently open for lap swimming from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Exercise classes and swim lessons will be added as requested by residents.
“We look forward to building a program that meets the specific needs of the community,” said Steinshnider.
