A big thank you for all participants for making our 2017 Dallas Senior Games a huge success. More than 300 senior participants have spent the week competing in 12 different competitive sports and over 32 different events, including, swimming, basketball, tennis, golf, track, and pickleball.
Our Senior Games started last Wednesday, February 22, with an Opening Ceremony at Fair Park, complete with a 5K, a Parade of Athletes and special guest, Olympic Gold Medalist Michelle Carter.
It had been 10 years since our last Senior Games, so we are excited that our new Senior Program Division reestablished this event. Since October 2016, the Senior Program Division has worked to provide enhanced opportunities for our seniors to gather, exercise, and enjoy the many activities offered by our department.
Our department’s goal is to enhance the quality of life for all Dallas residents, including those 55 years and older.
The Park and Recreation Department is committed to helping active seniors maintain a healthy and rewarding lifestyle. The Senior Games is a great way to highlight and encourage senior wellness. In fact, one participant is 92 years young (No, it was not me)! Thanks to our staff and participants at this great event – thank you for joining us in making Dallas a place for seniors to thrive!
