Smoking Ordinance

It is illegal to smoke at our City of Dallas parks and trails. This past November, the Dallas City Council approved a smoking ban on park property with some exceptions. The smoking ordinance took effect March 1.

“We encourage the community to join us in making our parks smoke free come March 1,” said Willis Winters, Dallas Park and Recreation Director. “This is a new ordinance approved by the City Council, so we are going to spend time educating residents about the new smoking ban.”

Smoking will be permitted at our six golf courses, Elm Fork Shooting Sports facility (the city-owned gun and archery range), and other department parks and facilities managed by private partners. Those include the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas Arboretum, Lee Park, and Fair Park during the State Fair of Texas.

“This ordinance is self-enforcing so park patrons will have to take it upon themselves to be courteous and respectful and keep our parks smoke free,” said Oscar Carmona, Dallas Park and Recreation Assistant Director.
